M.D. of Bonnyville undertakes extensive improvements to Vezeau Beach Campground
June 20, 2019 – The Municipal District of Bonnyville is making extensive improvements to Vezeau Beach Campground after acquiring ownership in March 2019. In this year’s budget, M.D. Council allocated $1.6 million for a long list of major, and minor, renovations to the park.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Luc Mercier says reconstructing the boat launch and dock is a complicated process as staff must work within Alberta Environment regulations, adjust an existing system that the high water shifted out of place and add features to make the area safe for users.
“Staff and contractors are working diligently to get the dock and launch up and running for the summer months. The M.D. has purchased 140 feet of new dock for the boat launch area and we are in the process of attaching it to the old system that was in place previously. We had to hire divers to locate the previous anchors as we are dealing with high water levels in Moose Lake. Staff have installed curbs in the water to mark the outside edge of the cement boat launch to make it easy to access Moose Lake. A sign will be erected, mapping out the underwater system to enable boaters unfamiliar with the lake to launch easily.”
Mercier says the M.D. is excited to take over the reins at Vezeau Beach and is looking forward enhancing the visitor camping experience. “Parks staff and contractors completed major upgrades to the sewage system throughout the campground before it opened in May. New outhouses were constructed and drainage was improved. Sites were gravelled and a lot of brush and trees were pruned throughout the park.”
