COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS February 28, 2023

#1 Planning and Development Updates – Council held five public hearings for roadway licensing Bylaw Nos. 1835, 1836, 1837, 1838, and 1839. The bylaws are for the renewal of existing leases, which allow for a number of uses, including cattle grazing, leased land access, and communication tower access.
Council also held a Public Hearing for Bylaw No. 1832 – the Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) between the M.D. and Cold Lake. A draft of the IDP can be found at bit.ly/MDIDP2023.
Council directed Administration to begin the process to re-designate industrial lands in La Corey to direct control districts. 

#2 2023 Fire Guardians — Council appointed the Fire Guardians for the 2023 wildfire season, which starts March 1 and runs until October 31. A full list of fire guardians, including which areas they cover, can be found on the M.D.’s website at bit.ly/MDFirePermits.

#3 Council Meeting Updates - Council has scheduled a Regular Meeting of Council for April 11, 2023. In addition, Council has cancelled the April 25, 2023 Regular Meeting of Council as multiple members of the Administration team will be away. 
Council rescinded Resolution 23.138 made during the February 14, 2023 Regular Meeting of Council, which would have moved Council meeting times to 1 p.m. Regular Meetings of Council and Committee of the Whole meetings will continue to start at 9 a.m.

#4 Briefly – The Glendon Agricultural Society made a delegation to Council. The presentation centred around how the society utilizes funding from the M.D.
Council also heard from the Bonnyville and District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The presentation was about the services the SPCA offers and its current financial statement.
Council approved the purchase of a hydrovac truck for the Infrastructure Services Department. The budgeted expenditure came in at $748,561.60 and will be funded from the 2023 Capital Budget.
Council declared June 5 to 11, 2023 as Seniors’ Week in the Municipal District of Bonnyville.
